RHA Auction in January

Originally scheduled for December 8, 2008, the RHA auction will now be held at the first RHA General Assembly of the spring semester. This meeting takes place at 4:00 pm on Monday, January 26, 2009. Bring your Dumbo Dollars to bid on fun prizes like DVDs, cleaning supplies, and board games. Credits earned from donating canned food at the December 8 meeting will be counted toward your total for the January auction.

Pop Your Tabs and Win Pizza!

RHA is sponsoring pop tab collection for Ronald McDonald House from now until the end of the fall semester. Each time you drink a canned soft drink, save the tab and turn it in at the front desk of your residence hall. The building with the most tabs by Holiday Break will win a pizza party for their first Hall Council General Assembly meeting of the spring semester!

Apply for NCC-IT

RHA is now taking applications for the position of National Communications Coordinator - In Training. This year's NCC-IT serves as National Communications Coordinator on the 2009-2010 RHA Executive Board. The IT also works with this year's NCC, Kate Shellenberg, to correspond with organizations like the National Association of College and University Residence Halls and the regional Midwest Affiliate. The NCC-IT is guaranteed a position in the NACURH conference delegation in May. Though the NCC-IT is not a paid position, as an Exec Board member for the next year, the individual receives $1000 off housing, $600 salary, and 35 BearFare each semester. Skate for Free!

Thursday, November 20, RHA and SAC are sponsoring Ice Skate Night at Mediacom (formerly Jordan Valley) Ice Park at Kimbrough and Trafficway. All Missouri State students are invited to skate for free - all you need is your ZipCard! Students can even ride free transportation from the Blair-Shannon Circle Drive and the Garst Entrance directly to the Ice Park. The event lasts from 9:45 pm to 11:45 pm, absolutely free. Grab your friends and your coat and go ice skate!

Shuffle Up and Deal!

RHA hosts the second Texas Hold 'Em tournament of the year next Monday, November 17, in the PSU Food Court. The first 100 students to show up will be entered into the tournament, and the winner walks away with a grand prize of a $50 Wal-Mart gift card. Second and third place winners also get Wal-Mart gift cards, while the rest of the final table will receive surprise prizes. The fun starts at 8:00 pm; come play and win!

Preview the Q

Be part of history by attending the first major event at all-new JQH Arena. On November 1, JQH will open its doors to the students to discover the new facility and be entertained by a number of acts and speakers. The Cadence, finalists on NBC's America's Got Talent, will perform a high-energy percussion act, opening the arena for Your Vegas, a rock band from Leeds, UK. There will also be appearances by Director of Athletics Bill Rowe, men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin, and women's basketball coach Nyla Milleson. The doors open at 9:00 pm, with Sodexo serving soft drinks and cookies before the event. This event is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities, Sodexo, Residence Hall Association, Student Government Association, Missouri State Greek Community, Student Activities Council, Students for a Sustainable Future, Maroon Madness, and the President's Office.

Halls To Be Haunted

Halloween in the Halls, the annual safe trick-or-treating program, will host dozens of children in the residence halls on October 29. The kids will dress up and trick-or-treat Missouri State residents, with the help of their Pumpkin Pal volunteer tour guide. Approximately seventy residents signed up to be a Pumpkin Pal, and over 400 rooms are participating in this program, making in one of the largest of the year. The children will be entertained with games, prizes, and refreshments in the Pumpkin Patch (located in the Blair-Shannon Grand Lounge).

Beat SIU And The Other Halls Too

Hall-a-palooza, a competition between residence halls, will take place at the October 25 football game against Southern Illinois University. Residents who attend the game will sign in with their building. The winner will be decided by which residence hall brings the most people, winning $100 for their hall council. The game starts at 1:30 pm.

Kimbrough Clean-Up

On Thursday, October 9, RHA will be sponsoring an Adopt-a-Street clean-up program where anyone is invited to help pick up trash along Kimbrough Street from Grand to Bennett. Volunteers will meet in Plaster Student Union across from the Information Desk at 5:00 pm. Gloves and trashbags will be provided and the work can be counted as a community service hour. Help Haunt the Halls

October 29 will be a fun night of tricks or treats when RHA hosts Halloween in the Halls from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. During these hours, local children will be invited into Missouri State residence halls for a fun and safe trick-or-treating experience. For the occasion, any resident can help make the night a great one for these kids. There are many opportunities to get involved: you can sign up to be a Pumpkin Pal and lead the children through the residence hall. Sign up by October 1 at your residence hall's front desk. If you and your roommates would like to hand out candy from your room, tell your Resident Assistant. RAs will be reporting to RHA by October 7, so let them know before then. If you are on a hall council and your executive board would like to work the Pumpkin Patch in Blair-Shannon's Grand Lounge, notify Todd Euglow by October 12. Be Crafty at Craft Night on Thursday

Come to the Blair-Shannon Grand Lounge at 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 2, to make fun crafts... all for free! Canvas bags will be available to decorate and use for sustainable shopping. Residents can decorate a flowerpot for fun room decorations. Craft Night gives everyone a great chance to have fun and be creative!

Bingo and Win!

Tuesday, September 30, RHA will host Fitness Bingo, a fun (and free) bingo game where you can win fun fitness prizes! The fun starts at 9:00 pm in the Plaster Student Union food court. There will be fifteen rounds of bingo with various prizes - from exercise balls to yoga mats to workout videos and more! Two prizes are so exciting that they can't be announced; show up to find out what they are! Fitness Bingo is the perfect combination of fun and fitness!

5K Run/Walk To Fight Breast Cancer

"MSU Making Strides for Cancer" is a 5K Run/Walk being held in Nathaniel Greene Park on Saturday, September 28 at 4:00 pm. The entry fee is $15 if you pre-register and $20 on the day of the event, with all proceeds going to the Lee National Denim Day. Entry forms may be downloaded online as a PDF file. (The free Adobe Reader is required to view PDF files.) Turn in the forms to Cathy McFall at Plaster Student Union. The first 150 participants will receive t-shirts, and all who finish will get a ticket for a Missouri State football or volleyball game. Download the application, turn it in, and join the fight against breast cancer!

Apply for MACURH 08

Have fun, meet people, and represent your university at MACURH 08! Everyone is invited to apply to be a member of the Missouri State delegation at the annual Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (MACURH) conference, November 7-9 at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri. During this conference, you will attend sessions describing various programming ideas and examples. Missouri State delegates from previous conferences have utilized these ideas at Missouri State, providing creative programs for the entire campus. The $15 registration fee includes lodging for the two nights of the conference, as well as food and conference fees. MACURH is a great opportunity to travel, meet new people, and have fun, all while you learn how to make Missouri State a better place to live.

Break out that propeller cap - the September 22 RHA General Assembly meeting theme is Crazy Hat Day! Wear your silliest hat; if it is the most crazy, you could win a prize! Presenting at the meeting is Katelyn Nichols, representing the upcoming 32 Minutes program on October 23. Also, bring $10 to order your Hasselhoff "Missouri State Rocks!" shirt! First RHA General Assembly Meeting

The first Residence Hall Association General Assembly meeting will be held September 15 at 4:00pm in Plaster Student Union room 313. All Missouri State students living in the residence halls are invited to attend. At this first GA meeting, the Executive Board will introduce themselves and present their plans for this year. Also planned for the Monday meeting are presentations from Jeff Houghton, who will discuss the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks blood drive, and 32 Minutes, the alcohol-awareness program scheduled for October 23. Come have fun and help make positive change at Missouri State!
