Green Bike Program

RHA will be starting a pilot program called the Green Bike Program the week after Spring Break. On Wednesday, March 16 from 9 am to 4 pm, students who live in the residence halls will have an opportunity to check out a bike. The only fee is a ten dollar maintenance fee since the bike does come with a lock. This program will be piloted for two years with residence hall students before it becomes a campus-wide program. So, be one of the first to have a green bike!

Green Games

The Green Games are underway! The goal of the 2011 Missouri State Green Games is to promote sustainable practices in resident’s everyday lives. There are several areas of competition in which students can compete to earn points.

In Recyclemania buildings receive points for the poundage of materials recycled, adjusted to account for differences in population. Buildings also get points for putting up bulletin boards that promote sustainability. Kudos to everyone who got one (or more!) up in the first two weeks, because those were worth bonus points. Ecopalooza is coming up on April 1st, and buildings get points based on the percentage of their building that signs in at the Residence Life booth.

Participating in an organized community service activity will earn buildings points based on the number of students participating and the number of hours worked. The same applies for residents that raise money for a specified organization. Things take a turn for the creative when buildings earn points for reaching out to the community with YouTube videos and Facebook pages about sustainability, and who could forget Project Greenway, the fashion show of sustainability?

Buildings receive points for active programs dealing with sustainability, and food programs where residents bring their own dishes and utensils earn points too! Residents can take matters directly into their own hands by getting their room green certified. Just in case there’s still a need to motivate people to participate, who can pass up free exercise equipment for their building

So, get to showing off how much you can recycle!
